Kim Eichler-Messmer - Introduction

Hi Everyone! I am so excited about our upcoming retreat. It's going to be so much fun and I can't wait to meet everyone.

I was a resident in 2007/08 and now I am an Assistant Professor in the Fiber Department at the Kansas City Art Institute. Primarily I am a quilt maker (see my work here) but during the retreat I plan on doing some screen printed yardage. Like Anna, I am interested in making some work inspired by the history of Arrowmont. During my residency we worked with Karen on some Arrowmont artifacts including a couple of woven coverlets. I would love to translate the coverlet patterns into two or three color silk screens and print them on yardage. In my own studio work I have been trying to squeeze in time to print quilt patterns like this:
That could then be turned into whole cloth quilts.

2007/08 residents: Kim, Alex, Sarah, Ted, Alicia
